Summer Study Abroad with SFS

Join SFS for an unforgettable summer!

SPECIAL UPDATE FOR SUMMER 2021

Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, SFS has made several adjustments to our Summer 2021 program lineup including shifting some programs originally scheduled for Summer I to Summer II and cancelling several programs.

Cancelled Programs
These programs will be offered again starting in Summer 2022.

  • Australia/New Zealand: Rainforests of New Zealand and Australia
  • Cambodia: Freshwater Ecology and Conservation
  • Kenya: Primates of the African Savanna

Summer I Programs
Dates: June 7 – July 7, 2021

  • Bhutan: Forests in the Land of the Thunder Dragon
  • Kenya: Fundamentals of Wildlife Management (NOTE: This program will operate in Kenya only and will include extra components on primate studies due to the cancellation of the primates special topics course for Summer 2021.)
  • Turks & Caicos Islands: Fundamentals of Marine Conservation (Waitlist only)

Summer II Programs
Dates: July 11 – August 10, 2021

  • Australia: Watersheds of the Wet Tropics
  • Bhutan: Big Cats of the Himalayas: Tracking and Conservation
  • Cambodia: Elephants of the Cambodian Highlands
  • Costa Rica: Biodiversity and Sustainable Food Systems
  • Kenya: Carnivores of the African Plains (NOTE: This program typically operates in Tanzania but will be based at our Kenya Center for Summer 2021. It will resume in Tanzania in Summer 2022.)
  • Panama: Tropical Island Ecosystems: The Human Impact
  • Turks & Caicos Islands: Marine Megafauna (Waitlist only)

Summer Combined
For Summer 2021, we will not be offering students the option to “mix and match” Summer I and Summer II programs. There could be too many factors at play with mandatory quarantines, testing requirements, or immigration restrictions. Therefore, if you hope to enroll in two sequential summer programs with SFS, your options are Bhutan, Kenya, or the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Adjusted Refund Policy
In consideration of COVID-19, SFS has amended the refund policy for Summer 2021 programs. You can review the updated refund policy under the FAQ section on our COVID-19 Updates page.

Due to the cancellation of our Summer 2020 programs and our plan to run programs with fewer students, we encourage students to apply early for Summer 2021. Program space will be limited, and we anticipate many, if not most, programs to go on a waitlist.

We’re here to help! Contact us at admissions@fieldstudies.org with any questions.

Study abroad at one of our eight field stations across the globe: Australia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Kenya, Panama, Tanzania, or the Turks and Caicos Islands!

Spend your summer earning credit and getting the hands-on learning and skill-building experiences of an internship, while also going off the beaten path and exploring the world. Study climate change issues facing communities and ecosystems, and contribute to a 40-year legacy of environmental stewardship. Get ready for muddy boots and dirt under your fingernails, because you’ll be out there doing science, not just talking about it in the classroom. Our planet is home to an incredible diversity of life and depends on the next generation of environmental leaders to protect its future – will you be one of them?

Financial aid packages available. Learn more about SFS financial aid or check out the summer program costs.
