Get Conched!

Turks and Caicos Islands

Recently the SFS TCI students had a wonderful cultural experience, learning how to knock conch in the traditional way. They were all excited about this and for the conch fritters that our amazing cooks Izzy and Antonia made afterwards for dinner.

This week we also had our first night snorkel in the swim zone and it almost looked like a Blue Planet documentary. We were lucky to watch a spotted moray eel attacking a fish and just when we thought that our snorkel was over we saw a squid eating a little fish right in front of us!

We tagged our first turtle and we couldn’t be happier. Hopefully, we will tag some more of its friends to continue our research to monitor their distribution around South Caicos and better understand local migratory habits.

Sunset hour means coming together at the conch wall.
