Megan graduated from the University of Minnesota with a self-designed degree in Retail Merchandising, Advertising, and English. She spent her college years working at H&M as a visual merchandiser, dreaming of the day when she could open her own vintage clothing shop. Her interest in Scandinavian design and culture led to a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, and then to an internship with DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia post-graduation. After returning to the Twin Cities, Megan continued to work at the DIS North American Office on their Enrollment Services team for five years. During this time, she began a Master’s degree in Intercultural Relations through the University of the Pacific in conjunction with the Intercultural Communication Institute in Portland, Oregon.
Delving into a curriculum focused on navigating cultural difference and change within both individual and group contexts was a transformational experience for Megan as it required her to engage in self-reflection of her own identities and privilege. To help students face challenges abroad, she developed pre-departure resources for DIS students and produced a series of videos that assisted students in setting expectations and reflecting on their identities. As a first-generation college student, Megan has always been passionate about helping students from diverse backgrounds gain access to study abroad. After attending the Diversity Abroad Conference in 2017, she spearheaded conversations about diversity and inclusion at SFS with a small group of colleagues, leading to the formation of the SFS Diversity Task Force.
