Megan attributes her intercultural curiosity to her upbringing in Saint Paul, Minnesota. At an early age she was influenced heavily by experiencing Irish and Japanese cultures through her participation as an Irish dancer and her family’s involvement hosting Japanese exchange students. It was during her first international experience on an EF tour to Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand that she fully realized her passion for learning about new places and people’s ways of seeing the world.
As an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, she spent a semester abroad studying communication and cross-cultural differences in advertising in Copenhagen, Denmark. Upon graduation, she moved back to Copenhagen for an internship with DIS- Danish Institute for Study Abroad as a liaison between students and faculty for the Communication program. After the internship, Megan continued to work with DIS at their North American Office in Saint Paul on the Enrollment Services team. During her years at DIS, Megan provided pre-departure advising on academics and visas and traveled across the US visiting students, faculty, and study abroad offices to promote the program.
Through her current Master’s work in Intercultural Relations through the University of the Pacific’s low-residency program, Megan focuses on cross-cultural adaptation and how to foster student’s intercultural competency while studying abroad. Driven to empower students and promote transformational study abroad experiences, she joined the SFS team in August 2015 as an Institutional Relations Manager.
