Student Affairs Manager
BA in Marine Affairs and Sociology
University of Miami (Florida, USA)
Jorie is from Massachusetts, but spends most of her time trying to avoid snow. She went to the University of Miami where she majored in Marine Science and Sociology, which she combined into research about the sociology of recreational fishing. While there, she studied abroad in the Galapagos Islands where she got to snorkel and hike every day for class.
Since graduating, Jorie has spent time working as a Marine Science Instructor at the Catalina Island Marine Institute, which involved leading snorkels, teaching marine science lessons and occasionally getting dressed up in costumes to dissect squid. She has spent summers in North Carolina teaching at a summer camp focused on sea turtles and scuba diving and in Bonaire leading a high school travel program. When not in the ocean, you can find her hunting for geocaches or attempting to master crow pose in yoga.
Jorie loved diving in California, but living in Bocas del Toro will be a great opportunity to return to warmer waters and to work with students during the life-changing experience of studying abroad.
