Waterfront Assistant Intern
B.S. in Environmental Science (Minors in Marine Science and Biology)
Wittenberg University (OH, USA)
TCI Summer '17
My name is Julia Valentine. I am from Columbus Ohio. I recently graduated from Wittenberg University where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and a double minor in Marine Science and Biology. I have always had a passion for the water and everything that entails. To jump start my marine career, I became scuba certified several years ago and worked my way to a scuba instructor certification. Throughout my diving journey, I have had the privilege to implement two reef foundations off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, assist the Coral Restoration Foundation in restoration efforts of marine environments, and helped in training students of all ages including boy scout troops along the way.
During college, I participated in many field research opportunities. I have traveled to the Bahamas researching marine invertebrates, Mississippi collecting data on amphibious and reptile species, the Duke Marine Lab in North Carolina surveying hermit crabs and other marine organisms, and one of my favorites, The School for Field Studies in Turks and Caicos studying abiotic and biotic factors of the deep and shallow sandflats and the effects on organisms present. Overall, I hope to channel the experience and knowledge gained over the past few years, including the passion for marine conservation, and introduce it to the students taking part in the program as a waterfront assistant intern at TCI.
