B.S. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies
University of Colorado Boulder (CO, USA)
Katie grew up outside of Washington DC before moving to the California Bay Area in middle school. She loved exploring the differences between the forests of the East Coast and grasslands of California. Her extensive time outside made SFS a natural fit come college. After studying with SFS Panama in Spring 2016, she decided to study Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado. In Boulder, she studied grassland plant responses to drought, but maintained a strong passion for the ocean that was sparked in Panama.
After graduating in December 2018, Katie interned at Mote Marine Lab, where she loved diving the Florida Reef Tract and kayaking between mangrove islands. In June of 2019, she moved to Alaska for six months, where she found that while cold water snorkeling can be delightful, nothing beats the warm waters of Bocas del Toro. She is very excited to return to Bocas as the Spring 2020 intern and hopes to help facilitate impactful experiences for students like those she had in her time as an SFS student.
