I’m Mariana Silva and I was born and raised in Madeira Island, Portugal. I’ve always been passionate about nature and marine life in general and growing up on an island I enjoyed spending my time outside, snorkeling and hiking with friends. My love for the ocean drove me to study marine biology and conservation. I accomplished my bachelor’s degree in 2015 from the University of Algarve, Portugal where I also started my scuba diving experience. Since then I have also been diving in South Africa and Germany.
Recently, in 2017, I graduated from the International Masters of Science in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (EMBC+) program. With my master’s I was able to travel and study abroad, meeting different people and cultures which allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. Now, I’m looking forward to my next experience as a waterfront assistant at The School for Field Studies and being involved with college students in marine ecology and conservation activities.
