B.A. in Globalization Studies
Gettysburg College (PA, USA)
Mike joins the SFS team out of the Bitterroot Valley in western Montana. There he was a program leader for an outdoor youth mentoring non-profit, leading trips and programs for at-risk youth in a variety of outdoor activities. Whether it’s leading skateboarding trips, planning rock-climbing excursions, or organizing week-long camps to some of America’s best National Parks, the experience of helping others form meaningful connections in nature and push their boundaries is a professional and personal passion.
Originally a Pennsylvania native, his college studies were in international environmental policy and development which led him to study abroad at Osaka’s Kansai Gaidai University. Upon graduation he returned to Japan, this time in the far north, to teach through the JET program for 3 years as well as work with the Hokkaido English Challenge Camp. There he made the Daisetsuzan mountains his playground and indulged his loves of nature, travel, and study before moving to big sky country to work with youth and instruct snowboarding. When he’s not on some wild adventure you can usually find Mike sharing stories or in a hammock somewhere reading, studying, or listening to music. He is excited about the opportunity to both support and learn from the SFS students and staff over the coming year.
