Patton Small was born in the West Texas town of Midland. Raised by geologists he spent his childhood roaming around the rugged parts of the American West. It was here that Patton developed his passion for exploration and natural history. Patton attended Carleton College where he graduated with distinction and earned BAs in Theatre Arts and Philosophy as well as an Interdisciplinary Concentration in Archaeology. As a student Patton had the privilege of working on a variety of scientific research projects (ranging in discipline from archaeology, to paleontology, ecology, and even anthropology) on four different continents. He also maintains a passion for exploration and has worked as a mountaineering and backcountry guide. Patton has been a member of expeditions on 3 continents in locations ranging from the Scandinavian high Arctic to the high alpine reaches of the Andes in the Aconcagua region or Argentina. Additionally Patton has a heavy academic interest in the field of performance studies and nurtures a deep interest in the performing arts.
