Ryan, originally from Scotland, is passionate about traveling, volunteering and about learning about world cultures. He has nine years of experience working with NGOs throughout the Americas and the U.K. that focus on women’s rights, education, youth development, leadership and environmental conservation.
Prior to joining SFS he worked with the Houston based NGO Amigos de las Americás in Cuenca, Ecuador as an Associate Project Director on their Gap Year Program. Before working in Ecuador, Ryan lived and worked in Nicaragua for two and a half years, holding a variety of positions with the Berkeley based NGO Global Student Embassy, including that of Exchange Program Director. Ryan is excited to be working for The School For Field Studies in Costa Rica: to inspire, motivate and support young people in their quest for knowledge, and encourage them to step outside of their comfort zones in safe and manageable ways. Ryan’s experience with education informs his belief that young people are best placed to bring about positive change in the world.
Ryan is a published author, activist and a seasoned experiential educator. In his free time, Ryan enjoys: singing, writing, reading, travelling and having engaging conversations.
