Student Affairs Assistant
B.A. in Environmental Studies, Minor in Economics
Sweet Briar College (VA, USA)
Savanna grew up in Shaker Heights, OH. She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where she received a B.A. in Environmental Studies and minored in Economics. In college, she enjoyed combining her interests in environmental conservation, economics, and creative writing to make her research on forest dynamics and management more accessible and exciting to the general public. Her interest in study abroad was also sparked at Sweet Briar when she met the environmental novelist Barbara Kingsolver. Kingsolver’s advice for aspiring environmental writers was to travel as widely as possible. Savanna went on to study abroad with SFS in the spring of 2015 at the Tanzania Center for Wildlife Management.
After graduating from Sweet Briar in 2016, Savanna returned to work as an admissions counselor. She was given the opportunity to travel across the US and internationally to meet prospective students. Some of her favorite questions to answer were about study abroad opportunities. SFS was always mentioned in those answers! During the winter, Savanna also worked as a ski instructor and is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. For fun, Savanna enjoys playing her viola, hiking, reading, and whitewater kayaking. She is an active member of Virginia’s largest paddlesports club, Coastal Canoeists. She served on the board, and is now the (remote) Cruise Chair, helping organize paddling trips from afar.
She is so excited to be back at to the Tanzania Center and help students experience the inspiring, exciting, challenging, and life-changing adventure that comes with studying abroad with SFS!
