Faculty Profile

Hello, I’m Steven, Ecologist, Biologist and Ornithologist from Huaraz (3,100 m) and I have been part of SFS since 2019. After more than two years of suspension of the program due to the pandemic, I’m super excited to be part of SFS again and lead the academics of the Peru program.

I obtained a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Conservation Sciences and Natural Resources from Cornell University (US) and have around 18 years of experience as Biologist, graduated from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), and Principal Investigator at CORBIDI (Center for Ornithology and Biodiversity). As a Fulbright and CONCYTEC Scholar, I’m happy to talk about my experience if you are interested.

I lived in Ithaca, NY for 6 years and visited different countries in Latin-America, and other parts of the world like Tanzania and Malaysia during this time. My experience in the application of conservation sciences, tropical ecology, mountain system ecology, ornithology, and quantitative ecology is motivated by the desire to present solutions to socio-environmental problems and contribute to the professional development of young professionals. I have also lectured human ecology, sustainable tourism, and ecotourism and different aspects of scientific research. In fact, with about 35 scientific publications in Spanish and English, I not only enjoy doing science but also seek to understand and guide the conservation of different mountain and Amazon ecosystems and improve our relationship as human beings with nature. I am a member of the Neotropical Avifauna Ecology Research Circle (CIAEN) and the Conservation Biology Chapter of South America. I love photography, playing soccer, food, music and to dance salsa.
