Institutional Outreach Assistant
Cambodia (Spring '17)
Tori is in her fourth year at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She is double majoring in Biology and Environmental Studies and is particularly interested in conservation and sustainability. She grew up in Colorado and enjoys all that the outdoors has to offer- from skiing steep mountain peaks to hiking serene forested areas, she is most comfortable exploring the natural world. Her love of skiing has driven her to become increasingly interested in climate change resiliency, as well as a desire to work with those most closely affected by environmental change.
Tori spent a spring semester abroad in Cambodia with the School for Field Studies. There, she got to experience firsthand how the local people are interacting with their environmental in a time of transition and development. She learned how to use her background from the classroom and apply it to real world scenarios throughout Southeast Asia. Her directed research consisted of working with a team to provide a baseline study for the quality of a wetland ecosystem in a province of rural Cambodia. Tori focused her attention specifically on water quality, especially analyzing inputs from the surrounding agricultural fields. She gained skills in this process that she knows will translate to any career she pursues in the future. Tori is excited to join the SFS team and hopes to help more students accomplish their goals through SFS.
