As I am sure you can relate, sitting long hours on a hard chair is never the ideal way to learn, even when you find the subject interesting. But here, at the Kilimanjaro Bush Camp, this is rarely the case. A normal “class” day for us usually includes a 30-minute hike through the Kenyan bush, with the occasional passing of a giraffe or elephant. Nothing like the thrill of the outdoors to keep things interesting.
Our time here at the KBC has been nothing but interesting. From carrying jerry cans full of water on our heads with the Maasai mamas to watching lion prides feeding on a zebra carcass and even chatting with local farmers about their conflicts with wildlife, there has never been a dull moment here. However, the greatest Kenyan adventure so far has been traversing through the gated paradise that is Lake Nakuru.

While we were not busy fighting the baboons at camp, we were game driving around the park, in search of the legendary black and white rhinos, rare in all parks of Africa. But it hasn’t all been fun and games. We are in the process of wrapping up classes for the semester and are about to begin with directed research.  With only four weeks left in the semester, everyone of us is making sure to take advantage of every opportunity and breathe in each moment.
