This Week on South Caicos

Turks and Caicos Islands

This week on South Caicos, students got their feet wet and explored the surrounding ecosystems. The Open Water SCUBA class got to experience their first ocean dive, giving the students a chance to practice their skills and start familiarizing themselves with one of our local dive sites. On the academic front, students explored the mangrove island of Moxy Bush, learning species identification of a variety of organisms such as fish, echinoderms, mollusks, cnidarians, algae, seagrasses, and mangroves. Knowing these organisms is a requirement of the Marine Ecology class, and will come in handy later on when students start their Directed Research projects. To end this exciting week, the students spent Saturday afternoon doing community outreach with local children and participating in a cancer awareness walk.
