When Trees Can Walk

For those of us who are Lord of the Rings fans, walking trees are nothing new. But, do they exist IRL?

Longtime SFS Costa Rica Center Director and ecologist, Dr. Gerardo Avalos, recently sat down with (well…hopped on Zoom actually) Italian illustrator and writer, Elisa Paganelli, to discuss the curiosities of the walking palm, Socratea exorrhiza, for her book, Un Albero Molto Speciale (A Very Special Tree). In the interview, Gerardo and Elisa discussed the tree itself, the legend that it can walk, and how to keep nature at the forefront of everything we do. ⁣
