How to Apply to an SFS Program

When applying to a study abroad program, there are lots of moving parts to keep track of. Follow the steps below to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Before You Apply:

  • Check with your home school for their requirements and deadlines. You should start the conversation with your home school study abroad office to discuss credit transfer, approved programs, financial aid, and any internal application/process.
  • Check the SFS eligibility requirements, which can be found on the Admissions Overview page.
  • Discuss SFS with your family, friends, pet, coach, and anyone else in your support network.
  • Apply for or renew your passport—it’s good to have even if you don’t study abroad with SFS!
  • Review the costs for your program and learn more about the SFS financial aid process.

SFS plans to resume programming this coming July with several Summer 2021 sessions. You can check out the current Summer 2021 program lineup here. For Fall 2021, SFS will be offering programs in Chile, Costa Rica, Kenya, Panama, and the Turks & Caicos Islands. SFS has canceled Fall 2021 programs in Australia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Peru, and Tanzania and plans to resume programming for these programs in Spring 2022.

To help expedite the application process for the high volume of program applicants for Summer 2021 and Fall 2021, SFS will be waiving the phone interview. Once all application materials have been received, students can expect to receive their admissions decision via email. SFS will be providing online pre-departure orientations that all students will be required to attend.

SFS Admissions is here to answer student, parent, or advisor questions regarding programs and the amended application process. We urge students to review the resources available on the program page, especially the Field Guide, Academic Handbook, and Policies and Procedures, which may answer many program questions.
