Profile
I am currently the special projects editor for NPR’s national talk show 1A, crafting original reports and leading special series on-air. I create hour-long radio broadcasts about almost any topic you can think of, but my favorite stories are focused on climate and the environment.
In the past, I’ve been in charge of the audience engagement events 1A hosts while on the road in addition to two years-long collaborations with nine public radio stations across the U.S. Helping people tell their own stories is at the heart of everything I do.
My summer in Tanzania cemented my passion for everything environment and climate. Studying wildlife management was an outstanding addition to my very non-science degree track (economics). I am thankful to have been able to go with the help of an SFS grant and the generosity of a family member.
I’m also grateful that SFS allowed me to return to camp later that year and stay in a guest house while reporting on deforestation and biogas around Karatu for a journalism fellowship. I initially learned about biogas from my time studying abroad that summer and my SFS teachers connected me with Stanley Mruma, who was invaluable as a fixer and interpreter for my reporting. You can read that article here: pulitzercenter.org/stories/tanzanias-challenge-preventing-deforestation
I live in Golden, Colorado, with my husband, daughter, and our two dogs.
Favorite SFS Memory: I loved any national park drives with Michael behind the wheel. He is so knowledgeable and downright incredible at spotting animals. He’s the reason we once watched two leopard cubs playing in a tree while their mom carefully stood guard in the tall grass below.
