Anita Makri is a freelance journalist/writer, producer and editorial adviser with 25 years’ experience, specializing in global development and science in society with a focus on health, environment, human rights.

Anita’s journalism and commentary have been published in The Guardian, The Lancet, National Geographic, Nature/Nature Medicine and Undark, among others. Alongside journalistic work she helps selected organizations with compatible values to strengthen their media work. She’s worked with a variety of clients, including funding/development agencies, NGOs and professional associations.

Before going freelance Anita held senior editorial positions, having started her career in publishing and research. She is based in London, US-educated, native of Cyprus, and has produced stories from Africa, Latin America and Asia.
