Profile

Katie is currently a project manager with the California State Coastal Conservancy in their South Coast team. In this role she supports projects that protect and restore coastal resources and increase opportunities for the public to enjoy the coast. Katie is based in the Bay Area at the Conservancy’s Oakland office and works on coastal restoration and climate adaptation projects in Southern California, in addition to managing the Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project.

She earned her M.S. from San Diego State University in marine ecology and her B.A. in environmental studies and marine ecology from UC Santa Cruz. After graduate school Katie was a Sea Grant Knauss Fellow in Washington D.C. and spent several years after her fellowship working for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Hawaii and California. She loves to travel and SCUBA dive and has taught marine science programs for teens for an education abroad program around the world called Broadreach, most recently in Curacao.

Favorite SFS Memory: In addition to absolutely loving learning about all the marine species underwater while snorkeling and diving in South Caicos, I really enjoyed getting to go out in the town and explore the island – a gorgeous and special place!
