Profile
I currently serve as a Director on the Board of Conservation Volunteers International Programs (ConservationVIP), a prominent provider of domestic and international programs that link volunteers with projects that support and sustain some of the world’s greatest landscapes, cultural heritage sites and biodiversity hotspots.
From 2010 to 2021, I worked as Chief Program Officer and Dean at the School for Field Studies. I went to SFS after working with government agencies including the DoD and the U.S. Army working in rural conflict zones as a cultural/behavioral intelligence specialist.
I have had the pleasure of teaching and lecturing at a number of higher ed institutions on topics including socio-cultural anthropology, economic anthropology, human adaptation, tropical human ecology, cross-cultural communication, and social network/cultural domain analysis. I have also been fortunate to work for a number of prominent universities in administrative capacities.
I have multiple degrees in the social sciences including a PhD in economic anthropology from Brandeis University. My academic interests are broad with specific attention on understanding human provisioning systems in small rural regions in the New World tropics.
Favorite SFS Memory: In the middle of one night, at our very remote rainforest camp, I awoke due to drips falling on my face from the rafters. Upon inspection in the morning, I discovered that the drips were actually bat pee from Glossophaga spp. Seeking remedy, I switched bunks with my roommate for the rest of term. He never felt compelled to investigate.
