Profile

I am an award-winning environmental writer and a wildlife biologist whose work has included the study and conservation of more than a dozen bird species in the Americas. I contributed to the recovery of several endangered birds, including serving for four years as the field manager for the California Condor Recovery Program in Arizona.

In 2024, I published “Feather Trails—A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds—about my experiences reintroducing three endangered bird species to the wild and highlighting the threats those birds face. My first book, “Condors in Canyon Country,” won the 2007 National Outdoor Book Award for Nature and the Environment. I’ve also written articles for BirdWatching and Wyoming Wildlife magazines, and I publish the “Words for Birds” blog on the Substack platform. I currently live in Montana.
