My wife, another SFS alumni (Kenya), and I own and run two veterinary hospitals offering a variety of services. I also coach High School soccer. We have two daughters.

Favorite SFS Memory: It’s hard to pick one with so many great memories, so I’ll list a few. I loved the whales. I couldn’t believe how many we saw the first day out on the pangas (boats). We also had the opportunity to go out on a boat with a semester at sea school. We were able to climb up the masts and see the whales spout and breach from way above. It was impressive. We got to put a whale skeleton together from a whale that had beached itself the year before.

One thing I will never forget is when we were in the pangas on the way to a research location. I was in the back of the boat near the driver. We were probably going about as fast as we could when a gray whale breached right in front of us. The driver turned the boat so fast that I started falling over the side of the boat. He was able to grab the back of my life preserver, hold me in the boat, and avoid hitting the whale all at the same time. I still have no idea how he did it.
