Homestay and Family
We’ve been in Kenya for over a month now and time is flying by. We all had our first homestay with a Maasai family last week. It was a fantastic experience to be a part of the family for a day and to witness first hand another way of life so different from our own back home. Even so, no matter where you go in the world, family is family. The way we all take pride in and love our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers all across the world—at the core it is the same.
The majority of that day was spent laughing—laughing with each other, laughing at our mistakes, laughing while we cooked, while we carried water and firewood with our heads or mixed cow dung for the boma walls, while we played silly games with the kids, and at the pictures we took of each other with the cameras. Our mouths hurt at the end of the day from smiling so much.
By the time we left, that boma no longer felt like a strange place in a world I wasn’t a part of, but like a true home. Just another family with another beautiful set of memories and stories, truly not so different from our own.
