Staff Profile

Amy was born in Hong Kong, learned to walk in New Zealand, and was raised in Alaska. She thanks her parents for encouraging a curiosity to explore the world and is fortunate to have traveled, studied, lived, worked, and volunteered abroad for much of her life. She remains in touch with her Costa Rican host family from her first study abroad experience in 1994. She also realizes that the previous sentence dates her, and that’s just fine.

Amy holds a BA in International Affairs and Spanish from the University of New Hampshire and an MA in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute. She spent her Capstone year working for BorderLinks, a bi-national organization that provides experiential education focused on social justice and migration issues surrounding the US-Mexico border. She moved to Washington, DC to pursue work in human rights advocacy, and then joined the Institutional Relations team at The School for Field Studies in 2008.

Though it is difficult to pick one experience that influenced her life path, serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia from 2001 to 2004 certainly stands out. She is mission-driven and passionate about a hands-on, real world approach to learning. Her favorite color is fire-engine red, which is also reflective of her personality, or so she’s told.
