Staff Profile

Hiya! My name is Madelyn and I’m the Health and Wellness Manager for SFS Cambodia. Growing up I was a homebody with a deep love of the outdoors and a secret desire to travel. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, I graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2019. During my time at William & Mary I was able to work as an outdoor trip leader taking students on caving, canoeing, and backpacking trips.

In the spring of my junior year I took my first international trip, traveling over 7,000 miles from home to study wildlife conservation and political ecology in Tanzania. Like many people, I found that the study abroad experience profoundly altered my understanding of my own limits as well as the world around me. I left Tanzania hoping to one day help others experience the sense of discovery, connection, and self-empowerment that I had.

Unfortunately, COVID interrupted my big dreams and for two years I worked as an event planner, and later a COVID case manager and quarantine logistics coordinator. In 2022 I made the leap to get TESOL certified and moved abroad to teach English in Vietnam. The last few years have taken me across SE Asia, the US, and parts of Europe while working in education. SFS Cambodia is an amazing organization helping students explore some of the world’s biggest environmental problems through a community lens, and I can’t wait to welcome students to Siem Reap for an incredible semester of learning and growing.

In my free time I enjoy hiking, reading, running, and truly ruthless trivia games. I’ll also never say no to a sweet treat.
