Matic is a PhD candidate enrolled at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the dissertation title ‘Spatial ecology and conservation of loggerhead sea turtles in Adriatic Sea’ due to graduate in 2024. He is also a teaching assistant at the University of Primorska, Slovenia, providing materials and supervision in labs and practical work for modules marine ecology, marine conservation biology, advanced topics in conservation biology, and biology and conservation of large vertebrates on master’s study program for Nature Conservation. He has expertise in statistics and spatial modelling, including the use of programming language R and geographic information system QGIS.

Matic supervised the fieldwork under the LIFE EUROTURTLES project, during which the small-scale fisheries bycatch was evaluated by on-board observers, including sea turtles, dolphins, marine birds and elasmobranchs. He conducted several attachments of satellite and GPS-GSM tags on sea turtles, with the aim to understand turtles at sea biology, behavior and interactions with Adriatic fisheries. He assisted the monitoring of sea turtle population in Slovenian Sea with the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones). Matic is also a part of research group investigating potential changes in diet of loggerhead sea turtles as a consequence of climate change and alien invasive species. He works as a liaison between the University of Primorska, Slovenia, and the Blue World Institute, Croatia.
